BARRY J. GOLDSTEIN, MD, PHD
Dr. Goldstein is the Director of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, and is Professor of Medicine, Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. Dr. Goldstein received a BS with distinction from Cornell University and graduated with honors with MD and PhD degrees from the University of Rochester School of Medicine. Following his medical residency at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY, he completed research and clinical fellowships at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and the Joslin Diabetes Center. After serving as an Assistant Professor at Harvard and a Research Investigator in the Joslin Research Laboratories, he moved to Philadelphia in 1992, where he assumed his current role at Jefferson Medical College.
Dr. Goldstein is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and is a Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology. He is an associate editor of DIABETES and the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism. He is a past president of the Philadelphia Endocrine Society and the Philadelphia Affiliate of the American Diabetes Association.
Dr. Goldstein maintains active basic and clinical research programs where his interests are centered on insulin-resistant disease states including obesity and type 2 diabetes. He has authored numerous papers on basic and clinical research as well as reviews and textbook chapters. He is a frequent lecturer at national conferences and international symposia.
RICHARD C. WENDER, MD
Richard C. Wender, MD, is Alumni Professor and Chairman, Department of Family Medicine at Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, PA. After earning his BA degree in biochemistry at Princeton University and his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Wender served his residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and remained with the University in various positions in the department of Family Medicine, including Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program and Vice-Chair.
Dr. Wender has participated as a coinvestigator in several oncology studies and has published numerous articles on a variety of subjects of interest to primary care providers, including diabetes, cancer screening, and gastrointestinal disease.
