Jeff-IT Frequently Asked Questions/Answers
Accessing Pulse, JeffMail, Banner Web, JEFFLINE and the Wireless Network
What is a Campus Key?
Web-based access to most University online information systems requires a "Campus Key" login and password. You'll need your Campus Key to get into personalized sections of Pulse, JeffMail email, Banner student records, JEFFLINE databases and more.
What is my Campus Key?
The Campus Key is of the form "fml###" where f, m, and l are your first, middle and last initials and '###' is a number. If we don't know your middle name, you may find an 'x' instead. This login will always be unique among Jefferson users. Your Campus Key is used to access Pulse, JeffMail email, Banner and JEFFLINE. DO NOT SHARE YOUR CAMPUS KEY OR PASSWORD!
How do I get my Campus Key?
All students, all University and Hospital faculty and staff, and all JEFFLINE subscribers are automatically assigned a Campus Key. Find your Campus Key now.
What is my Campus Key Password?
If your Campus Key was created before June 2, 2008, your first Campus Key Password is your Social Security Number (SSN) without hyphens.
If your Campus Key was created on or after June 2, 2008, your first Campus Key Password is your first name initial, last name initial, and last 4 digits of your Social Security Number (SSN), without any punctuation.
If you have used JeffMail
(@jefferson.edu) or Banner Web, use the same password with your Campus Key.
How do I change my Campus Key Password?
The first thing a new campus key user should do is change your Password. Do NOT use words found in the dictionary or any variant of your name. A good practice is to pick two words linked with a character such as a dash or period. Campus Key Passwords must be at least 6 and no more than 8 characters long. Change your Campus Key Password now.
How do I get assistance if I am having difficulty with my Campus Key?
If you can't log in with your first Campus Key Password or JeffMail password, please:
- come to the Scott Library Reference or Circulation desks with your photo ID, or
- telephone the Scott Library Reference desk at 215-503-8150 for assistance (after hours, press an additional 0 to connect to Circulation).

What is Jefferson Pulse?

How do I get to the Jefferson Pulse Portal?
From any web browser, go to http://pulse.jefferson.edu.
Links to Pulse are also available from JEFFLINE pages -- in the button
bar at the top of each page, or the bottom of each page.
Why don't I show up in the 'My Pulse' User Directory?
By default users are not listed in the user directory. To list yourself in the directory, follow these steps. From the "My Pulse" tab, click on "Personal Information", then click on "Set Privacy Options", then under section 1, select what you wish to be viewable to others. Under section 2, select "List my information in the user directory".
How do I find help about using Pulse?
Visit the Jefferson Pulse Help Center by clicking on the HELP icon at the top of every Pulse page. You will find help resources for students, instructors, and organization members and managers.
How do I enroll in a Pulse Course?
Enrollments are generated automatically for all credit courses from the Banner student information system. You will see your courses under the ŚCoursesą tab. For other courses, e.g., Jeff-IT online tutorials, there is either open enrollment where even guests are allowed or you may enroll yourself. To look for courses you are not enrolled in, click the 'Courses' tab and use the 'Course Catalog' or 'Course Search' functions.
Why is there no content in my Pulse Course?
Although you may be enrolled in a for-credit course, it does not mean that the instructor has elected to have an online component in Pulse. Discuss this with your instructor.
How do I enroll in an Organization under Pulse?
Each Pulse Organization has its own enrollment policy. Some allow guests, some allow you to self-enroll and others may require a fee or some other manual membership process. Each official Student Organization has a site in Pulse. Refer to this Student Organization Directory for more information.
