“Homeopathy: A New Scientific Perspective”

Dr. Daphne Goldberg is board certified in Family Medicine and Integrative Holistic Medicine, and has been a board certified member of the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine for the past nine years. She is an expert on homeopathy, a 200 year old system of medicine that has early roots in Philadelphia. She will provide an overview of the history of homeopathy and a compelling emerging theory of its scientific basis .

Education Services is offering workshops to get faculty started with the new product. The first, Blackboard Learn: Essentials, is a two-hour session that focuses on the basic features of this new Blackboard interface and introduces the new feature set, including:

Scope

While the selection does not include every journal in our collection, titles from major journal publishers (including Elsevier, Springer, Wiley, Nature Group. JAMA and NJEM) are currently included. As new agreements are made with publishers, additional content will be added. Just be sure to register as a Jeffersonian to get access to Scott Library’s subscribed journals.

• Download and install the free Browzine iPad app (available at the App Store)

• Enter your campus key and password to register

Jefferson is creating a video to showcase how important all of us are to the patient and student experience. We’re looking for a crowd of Hospital and University employees who would like to appear in a brief video segment that will be taped at Lubert Plaza outside of the Dorrance H. Hamilton Building.

All you have to do is show up, wear what you normally do for work, wave at the camera and say: “We Make A Difference!” The taping should take about 15-20 minutes to complete.

How to teach RefWorks Basics (taught in 30 minutes)
During this 30-minute session, you’ll rapidly learn: how to create an account; direct export citations from two databases; create a folder; create a bibliography from a list of citations; and create a bibliography using Write N’ Cite. This session is primarily designed for those who will train on RefWorks and to learn how to do so quickly; however, those who are new to RefWorks can learn the basics in this 30-minute session.

Here are some tips to help you in evaluating where to publish your research:

1. Consult the ever-expanding Beall’s list of predatory publishers and journals:

View the criteria for inclusion in the list (highly recommended reading)

2. Where is the journal indexed?  Most reputable journals are indexed in major bibliographic databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. Journals should list where they are indexed. As popular as Google Scholar and other internet search engines have become, bibliographic databases are still driving forces for indexing and finding scientific literature.

3. Does the journal have any impact factors? Most new journals start receiving impact factors after two years of indexing. You can find impact factors using Journal Citation Reports from the JEFFLINE homepage. Currently, data from 2008-2011 is available online.

4. Processing fees. Does the journal mention an article processing fee? If yes, are the fees listed or do you have to email them to inquire?  How transparent is the process of publishing?

5. Your colleagues. Have your colleagues published in the journal? Do you recognize any of the faculty on the editorial board or recent table of contents?

When in doubt contact a librarian at Scott Memorial Library who can help find reputable journals for publishing your manuscripts.
