Ed Tawyea is Director of Academic & Instructional Support & Resources and the University Librarian.

Interests & Expertise

1. The University as publisher:
   
   
   1. Leading efforts for TJU faculty to produce high quality, multimedia materials which address the learning needs of our students and which also have market appeal to commercial publishers.
      
      
   2. Educating TJU faculty and providing leadership related to the options to publish their new scientific discoveries in alternative ways to the commercial, for-profit sector. This includes new venues such as the Jefferson Digital Commons.
      
      
2. Improving the physical and virtual learning infrastructure on campus to address new methods of teaching and learning.
   
   
3. Developing new programs which complement the rich historical and cultural materials held by the Library.

Background & Training

Prior to arriving at Jefferson in 1988, Ed was Associate Director of the Medical Library of Northwestern University in Chicago for ten years. He has worked in health sciences libraries for thirty years.

He received a BA in history (classical) from the University of Detroit and a Master's in Library Science from Wayne State University. He is a member of Beta Phi Mu, the International Library Science Honor Society.

Professional Activities

Ed is an active member of the Association of Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL). He has served on the Board of Directors and as President of AAHSL and is currently Web Editor for the association. He has served as a member of the Joint Legislative Taskforce of AAHSL/MLA, working on issues related to copyright and intellectual property.

A member of the Medical Library Association since 1978, Ed has served on a variety of national committees for the association. He is also a member of American Library Association.

In Chicago, Ed served as a founding member of the Board of the Chicago Access Corporation on behalf of Northwestern University. This corporation guided the utilization of public access cable channels for educational, health and public information uses.
