Jay O'Meara

Jay O'Meara is an Interactive Multimedia and Web Designer for AISR Education Services.  He creates web- and CD-ROM-based interactive applications for Jefferson Medical College, as well as medical animations.  He also assists with running tech support for distance learning classes.

Interests & Expertise

Jay spends a majority of his time in his office scribbling furiously on his WACOM Tablet, hoping the end result resembles something partially useful for the future of Medical Education.  His main weapons are Flash and Photoshop, with occasional use of MAYA.  He has been known to use After Effects and Premiere, but only if no one is looking.  His background is in animation, which means he is extremely proficient in drawing the same image over and over with slight variations.  When played back at 24 frames a second, magically these images move.

He is also proficient at Web Design, despite clinging to HTML 1.0 long past when it was fashionable.  He has finally managed to learn some of that CSS stuff the kids keep talking about, and knows just enough Flash ActionScript to cause problems.

When not in his office, Jay can usually be found in the Anatomy Lab assisting the professors by taking digital photographs of physical abberations in cadavers, being an impromptu lab assitant, and terrifying first year medical students with his humorous enjoyment of his job.

Background & Training

Jay holds a BA in Computer Animation from the Savannah College of Art and Design.  Before working at JEFF he was a freelance illustrator and web designer, designing book covers, band websites, and online advertisements.

He also did a 2 month stint in the mailroom at a major pharmacuetical company, which he credits for his vastly flawed knowledge of genetics and bio-engineering, gleaned from talking to scientists while he delivered their mail.

Personal Interests

When not at work, Jay enjoys drawing and animating things that are NOT medical illustrations.  He also enjoys going to The Trocedaro for concerts, campy horror movies, comics, Civil War history, and old Nintendo games.  He used to play in a Metal Band, but they broke up.  He still has his denim vest.  He owns more guitars than necessary, and spends less than he would have you believe on hair care products.  He also plays in his Church Band (No, seriously!).
