AOA Project & Services: Community Projects
Undergraduate Advising
AOA sends Jefferson students to the surrounding undergraduate colleges
and universities to speak with interested pre-medical students. We inform
students about resumé building, the process of applying to medical
school, and give an overview of "the medical school experience."
Special Olympics
In 2008 AOA recruited over 60 medical students to volunteer at the Special Olympics held at Villanova University.
Daffodil Days
Daffodil Days is a fundraiser sponsored by the American Cancer Society
where AOA students sell daffodils in the Gibbon Building's Atrium. The
event takes place in March. This year's Daffodil Days raised a record
$1,000 for the ACS from the AOA site sale!
Community Medicine
This project gives Jefferson students the opportunity to go into the community
and make blood pressure and diabetes screening available to the people
of Philadelphia. This project will also allow Jefferson students to actively
educate patients while stressing the importance of public health and improving
student-patient interactions. Projects will focus on large community events
such as the "Unity Fair" and sporting events.
All students are welcomed and encouraged to participate
in any of the above activities.
