Library Access Privileges: Non-profit Institutions

Library Cards

Non-profit institutions may purchase a Scott Memorial Library Corporate Membership for an annual fee of $1,100. This membership entitles up to two employees of the organization to receive the Library privileges outlined below. Cards for additional employees are available at the discounted rate of $400 per card. The year of membership begins on the date of receipt of payment.

Corporate Member library cards are the property of Thomas Jefferson University. They do not entitle the holder to other services within the University and must be surrendered upon request of Scott Memorial Library staff.

Library cards must be presented in order to receive the services included in the membership. The Library may refuse service if the Member's employee has failed to bring the card to the Library.

If the card is lost or stolen, the card holder should notify the Library immediately. If an original card holder leaves the employ of hte Member during the membership period, or if the Member wishes to change its designated employee, the Library will privde a new identification card for a $25.00 fee.

Services Included in Membership

  1. Access to Scott Library during regularly scheduled hours. This includes weekends, evenings, and 24-hour access to the first and fourth floors. The Library card must be presented to enter the building and worn while in the Library.
  2. Use of Library print materials and public computers. The public computers provide MS Office products, Internet access and use of freely accessible Web materials (on JEFFLINE's E-Resources page or List of All Databases). This includes CD-ROM databases available in the Information Services area on the second floor of the Library.

    NOT included:
    • databases, electronic journals and electronic books restricted to TJU institutional use by licensing agreements. Such restricted databases include, but are not limited to MD Consult, Ovid MEDLINE, CINAHL and MICROMEDEX.
    • AV materials housed in the Learning Resources collection.

  3. Borrowing privileges for Scott Library's print collection, subject to the same policies that apply to TJU patrons. Circulation policies are subject to change during the course of a membership.
  4. Discounted photocopy and laser printing rates @ 10 cents per copy, plus the cost of a copy card ($1). Rates are subject to change but will not increase by more than 5 cents per copy during any one subscription period.

    Photocopy machines and laser printers are self-service, card-operated. Copy cards may be purchased and recharged at the Circulation Window on the second floor. Please note, copy cards are non-refundable.
  5. Database searches by an Information Services librarian ($35/topic plus online fees, up to 25 searches per year). Scott Memorial Library has access to hundreds of databases on a wide range of scholarly and popular topics.   6. Monthly alerting services on biomedical topics. Fees for alerting services include a one-time set-up fee of $35 and $6/topic for in-house databases or a negotiable rate for vendor-based online services.
  7. JeffDocs document delivery services for items owned by Scott Library are provided for a fee of $10/item, or $20/item for fax delivery. These fees may increase by no more than $4 per article during the membership period. Interlibrary loan services are not included.
  8. Access to the services of Medical Media Services at the same fees as Thomas Jefferson University customers. The MMS department provides slides, photography, artwork, and other biomedical communication services.

  9. Free Education Services workshops, subject to availability of seats and the same no-show fees that apply to students and faculty.

Services Excluded From Membership

  1. Use of the Learning Resources Centers and Open Access Lab.
  2. Borrowing privileges at the Learning Resources Centers.
  3. Interlibrary loan services.
  4. Licensed databases, electronic journals and electronic books. See access alternatives for JEFFLINE guests.

Responsibilities

Corporate Members agree to follow all Library policies and are responsible for all materials charged to Membership cards. Failure to comply with policies may result in loss of Library privileges.
