Library Access Privileges: Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Methodist Division

Employees of Methodist Hospital and Methodist Hospital School of Nursing students may use all Scott Library services on the same basis as other Jefferson students and staff.

To visit Scott Library:

  • Present a valid Methodist photo ID to the Security Officer at the 1st floor entrance to the Library.
  • Register to receive Library services at the Circulation Window, 2nd floor Scott Library. Upon registration, you will receive a blue Scott Library card with a barcode.
  • Present your card whenever requesting Library services.

Services Included

  1. Access to Scott Library during regularly scheduled hours. This includes weekends, evenings and 24-hour access to the first and fourth floors. The Library card must be presented to enter the building and worn while in the Library.
  2. Use of all in-house Library materials and public computers.
  3. Access to all databases, database services, and full-text resources, including all journals, MICROMEDEX/CareNotes, MD Consult, Harrison's Online, STAT!Ref, Ovid MEDLINE, CINAHL, HealthSTAR and Journals@Ovid, and more. See JEFFLINE's lists of over 100 databases and almost 5000 online journals.
  4. Borrowing privileges for Scott Library's print collection, subject to the same policies that apply to TJU patrons.
  5. Discounted photocopy and laser printing rates @ 10 cents per copy, plus the cost of a copy card ($1). Photocopy machines and laser printers are self-service, card-operated. Copy cards may be purchased and recharged at the Circulation Window on the 2nd floor of the Library. Please note, copy cards are non-refundable.
  6. Database searches by an Information Services librarian ($35/topic plus online fees, up to 25 searches per year). Scott Memorial Library has access to hundreds of databases on a wide range of scholarly and popular topics. For more information or to request a search, contact an Information Services Librarian at 215-503-8150 or use the search request form.
  7. Monthly alerting services on biomedical topics. Fees for alerting services include a one-time set-up fee of $35 and $6/topic for in-house databases or a negotiable rate for vendor-based online services.
  8. JeffDocs document delivery services for items owned by Scott Library are provided for a fee of $5/item, or $10/item for fax delivery.

  9. Inter-Library Loan Service (ILL) for articles and books not owned by Scott Memorial Library. Subject to copyright restrictions journal articles and books not available in the Scott Library can be obtained for a fee of $5/item, or $10/item for fax/rush delivery.
  10. Access to the services of Medical Media Services at the same fees as Thomas Jefferson University customers. The MMS department provides slides, photography, artwork, and other biomedical communication services.

  11. Free Education Services workshops, subject to availability of seats and the same no-show fees that apply to students and faculty.

Responsibilities

  1. Report lost or stolen Library Cards to Scott Library immediately. Library Card holders are responsible for all library items charged to their card prior to reporting a loss. Replacement cards may be purchased for $5.
  2. Present your Scott Library card for all services outlined in this agreement.
  3. Follow all Library policies. You are responsible for all materials charged to your card. Failure to comply with policies may result in loss of Library privileges.
