General Resources Available on the Internet

RootsWeb
http://www.rootsweb.com/
The Internet’s oldest and largest genealogy site is home to ROOTS-L (a electronic discussion list for genealogy topics) as well as the RootsWeb surname list. In addition, the site contains an excellent getting started section; a list of tools and resources; and US, State, and County resource lists.

Genealogy Home Page
http://www.archives.com/resources/free-resources/the-genealogy-home-page/
This site contains links to numerous genealogical sites on the Internet as well as information on how to do genealogical research. Sponsored by Family Tree Maker Online, the site divides the links into several different categories such as genealogy help and guides, newsgroups, software, Internet genealogy guides, online genealogy information, and genealogy societies.

Cyndi’s List
http://CyndisList.com/
Basically a "card catalog" for genealogical sites on the Internet, Cyndi’s List contains links to thousands of sites categorized and cross-referenced by hundreds of different categories including country of origin, religion, and race.

Ancestry.Com
http://www.ancestry.com/
Ancestry.com contains one of the largest collections of family history data online. The site includes general information on performing genealogical research, family name databases, and how to publish genealogical research online.

National Genealogical Society
http://ngsgenealogy.org/
The National Genealogical Society is a service organization that leads and educates the genealogical community while assisting members in tracing family histories. Included in the Society's Library is a collection of records from the American Medical Association covering physicians who died between 1906 and 1969. For a small fee, the Society will perform a search of these records for a particular name. A search may be ordered online.

Find a Grave
http://www.findagrave.com/
While mainly touting a listing of graves of the famous, the list has expanded to include less well-known individuals. The searchable database allows searches by name, birth or death dates, location, or reason for fame.

Interment.net
http://www.interment.net/
Interment.net provides searchable cemetary records from over 1,700 cemeteries around the world, encompassing over 400,000 burial records. Most are within the United States. The database allows you to search by surname or you can find a list of cemeteries by geographic location. The site also contains links to obituaries online, genealogy Web portals, directories, and surname studies. Membership in the site is required in order to view some of the information.
