Manuscripts

The Manuscripts Collection includes a variety of unique or rare materials which document student life and the careers of Jefferson alumni and faculty. Located in this collecting area are items such as:

• lecture and clinical notes from Jefferson's earliest years,
  
• diplomas and certificates,
• reminiscences by Jefferson nurses, doctors, alumni and faculty, and
  
• matriculation tickets used by students to attend lectures during Jefferson's proprietary era.

In addition, this section contains collections of personal papers, including those of John H. Brinton, William S. Forbes, John Chalmers Da Costa, Samuel D. Gross, John H. Gibbon, William W. Keen, and the Solis-Cohen family.

An alphabetical index of the major manuscript collections is listed below, and a list of finding aids is available. However, for the most up-to-date and comprehensive check of all manuscript collections, search the Library’s online catalog. Manuscript collections within the University Archives will list as their location "University Archives."

While these materials are available for use by the public, they may not be removed from the Department. In addition, some records may be subject to restrictions due to donor requests or their fragility.
