Scott Memorial Library is named for Samuel Parsons Scott, a lawyer from Hillsboro
Ohio who claimed to have been cured of a chronic respiratory
ailment by a JMC professor. Mr. Scott bequeathed his personal
library of over 8,000 books, along with an endowment, to Jefferson;
the Library was dedicated to him in 1931. Scott Library moved
to its present location at 1020 Walnut Street in August of 1970.
Today the collection consists of approximately 213,000 bound volumes,
over 2,600 current serials subscriptions and more than 1,800
audiovisual items. In addition, Scott Library is home to the
University Archives.
Library services include lending,
reference, interlibrary loan, Internet access, mediated online
searching, quiet study areas, photocopiers, computer application
support, and user education. Many of the Library's services
are freely available via JEFFLINE, the Library's Web interface, and
computer workstations are located throughout the building.
By using their Campus Keys, members of the Jefferson community
can access additional restricted resources on JEFFLINE, such
as electronic databases and journals, from on- or off-campus
computers.
