Artist's Statement
You can see here what I always wanted to paint about Philadelphia: cloudy skies, desperately empty spaces, sometimes derelict cars, old brick houses changing from dirty red into dark old beige, sunbathed house-fronts on Walnut Street, Rittenhouse Square in spring--the light in spring is delightful and you can discover more while the trees are still naked. And my favorite: City Hall by night with its border-crossing, overly decorated architecture, topped with its very yellow shining clock and no numbers!
Philadelphia reminds me a lot of Berlin with its easy-going attitude and the kind of hidden charm that tells us a lot about most of the old buildings in Center City.
I hope that you will enjoy wandering through the streets of Philadelphia as much I enjoyed painting them.
