Reference Service Policy

One of the primary goals of the University Archives and Special Collections Department is to provide access to its holdings for Jefferson students, faculty, staff and alumni. The Archives provides this service to the Jefferson Community free of charge and without time limitations.

The general public also is welcome to visit and make use of materials available for research. The Archives is open by prior appointment only.

The Archives accepts reference questions from non-Jefferson individuals via mail or email. However, due to the Department's limited staff this type of reference service to the general public has been identified as a secondary mission. Any request that requires a quick, straightforward response taking 15 minutes or less will be performed free of charge. Please use the Reference Request Form to submit your question to the Archives.

Requests will be processed in the order in which they are received and reference service will be provided on an as-time-is-available basis.
