Seth MacCuen Smith Papers

Seth MacCuen Smith was born in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania in 1862. He graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1884 and later became a Professor of Otology at Jefferson Medical College. Throughout his career he authored many publications on diseases of the ear. During his life he was a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Oto-Laryngology; the American Laryngological; Rhinological and Otological Society; the American Otological Society; and the American College of Surgeons. He also served as the President of the American Otological Society. He worked on the staffs of the Jefferson Hospital, the American Oncologic Hospital, Germantown Hospital, the Memorial Hospital, and the Jewish Hospital. He died on September 14, 1929 at the age of 66 from chronic myocarditis.
Scope and Contents
This collection consists largely of Smith's otological publications. It also contains several addresses, photographs, and biographical materials.
