Thomas D. Mitchell Papers

Thomas Duché Mitchell was born in 1791. He received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1812 before becoming an Instructor in Vegetable and Animal Physiology at St. John's College. He practiced medicine in and around Philadelphia from 1822 to 1831. He went on to teach in Cincinnati and in Lexington before returning to Philadelphia in 1847 as Chair of Theory and Practice of Medicine at the Philadelphia College of Medicine, a position he held for ten years. Mitchell then worked as a Professor at Jefferson Medical College from 1857 until his death in 1865.
