Welcome to the Writing Center

The Writing Center is a place where you can come for support at any stage in the writing and publishing process. We offer free assistance to all members of the Jefferson community and specialize in research papers and medical and scientific reports.

The Writing Center is staffed by an experienced writing consultant who will provide feedback and guidance on your work, whether you need motivation getting started on a manuscript, guidance on structure and flow, or feedback on a finished draft. We can also help you with grammar and style, but please keep in mind that the consultation appointments are not specifically proofreading sessions.

The goal of the Writing Center is to help you become an effective writer and communicator in your academic or professional field. A consultation session can provide insight that improves not only your current writing project, but also future writing projects, as well.

How to make an appointment

Call the Writing Center at 215-503-0441 or schedule an appointment via email.

Please provide a short description of your current specific writing needs, goals, or concerns. In short, what you hope to accomplish during the appointment.

Ideally, appointments take place in-person at the Writing Center, which is centrally located in Scott Memorial Library, Room 305. However, we recognize that many of you cannot visit the Writing Center due to your location or schedule. If necessary, we can make other arrangements to help you.

What to expect during an appointment

Prior to your appointment, email a draft of what you're writing. This gives the consultant time to review your work in advance of meeting.

Feedback will be based on a close reading of your work, with the focus on addressing your specific writing needs. When appropriate, we'll provide comments and edits on your draft using the "track changes" function in Microsoft Word. This will allow you to see the consultant's feedback directly on your draft.
