AISR Supports SPARC
AISR (Academic & Instructional Support & Resources) supports the goals of the Scholarly Publishing and
Academic Resource Coalition (SPARC). SPARC is an alliance
of over 200 universities, research libraries and organizations dedicated
to creating constructive change in the scholarly communication system.
It addresses the increasing consolidation of commercial publishing and
crippling journal price increases with alternative publishing options,
advocacy and education.
What Does SPARC Do?
- SPARC partners with existing commercial publishers and supports
non-profit publishers to create competitive alternatives to the traditional
journal business model.
- SPARC advocates for fundamental change in the system and culture
of scholarly communication. Its audience includes scholars, administrators,
publishers, politicians and the public.
- SPARC sponsors educational campaigns about the issues of scholarly
publishing and copyright.
Scott Library's goal is to assist Jefferson faculty in communicating
the important new knowledge they discover in a way that reaches the
widest relevant audience while also retaining the copyright to their
intellectual property. In additional, we seek to minimize the cost of
acquiring the knowledge-based resources (journals and books) the University's
faculty, students and staff require by working with academic partners
internationally.
