Jeff-IT has placed wireless hardware (access points) in the Barringer, Orlowitz, and Martin residence halls, the first two floors in Jefferson Alumni Hall, and all four floors of Scott Memorial Library. Wireless accounts are required for access, but are free to Jeffersonians. Wireless accounts are managed by Jeff-IT, at their Customer Support Center, 3rd Floor, Edison Building.

Currently, this wireless service offers access to the Internet and other open applications such as JeffShare, JeffCal and JeffMail. Instant messaging (AIM, ICQ, MSN Instant Messenger), Telnet, SSH and FTP are also supported. Applications on the secure University network are not accessible; the wireless network is part of the separate Academic & Research Network (ARN).

How Can I Use It? Two Easy Steps

Step One - Buy the right network card:

  • Jeff-IT provides a list of compatible cards on its Pulse Help site (choose Wireless Network from the spine menu)
  • The TJU bookstore has a stock of these cards (contact them at 215-955-7922), but you may buy them from other sources, as well.

Step Two - Register for a wireless account:

  • Request a wireless appointment by sending an email from your Jefferson.edu account to wireless@jefferson.edu.
  • Include in the message your Campus Key, full name, the type of computer you will be using, and your availability to come to the 3rd floor of the Edison Building for your appointment.
  • You will be contacted by email within 24 hours with an appointment time for configuration of your laptop (and installation of your card if necessary) by Jeff-IT. You must bring your computer to your appointment.
  • At the time of your appointment, you will also sign a student wireless agreement, after which your account should be activated within one working day.
