Laptop Lending Service at the Scott Learning Resources Center

Wireless Laptops Available in the LRC

Dell laptop computers, with Microsoft Office 2003 and wireless cards, may be checked out from the Scott LRC Service Desk for 3 hours at a time. The laptops may be used ONLY in the Scott Memorial Library. Once Jeff-IT activates your wireless account, the laptop computers will provide access to the Internet from anywhere within the Library.

Laptops are available for lending to individuals or for reservation to support courses and workshops.

To check out a laptop computer, you will need your Jefferson photo ID card, which will be held in the LRC until you return the computer. In addition, you will be required to sign an agreement stating that you understand the policies for use of the laptop computers.

The Learning Resources Laptop Agreement

Laptop computers are available for loan, through the Scott Learning Resources Center, to members of the Jefferson community (students, faculty, and staff). A Jefferson photo ID card is required to check out a laptop computer, and the borrower is expected to follow the following policies. The borrower will be held financially responsible for the laptop computer and will be fined for any repairs or replacement of the computer or its components.

  1. Use the laptop computer only in the Scott Library. Anyone found attempting to take a laptop computer out of the Scott Building will be fined $50 and lose all future privileges for borrowing laptop computers. Borrowers must leave their Jefferson Photo ID card in the LRC with a signed Borrower's Form. Removal of the laptop from the building constitutes theft.

  2. Keep all food and drink away from the laptop computer. Scott Library policies regarding food and drink apply. Anyone found with either food or drink near a laptop is in violation of those polices. Laptop borrowers found violating the policy will be expected to surrender the laptop to a Library staff member immediately.

  3. Keep the laptop computer with you at all times. The borrower of the laptop computer is responsible for its replacement cost if it is stolen. Therefore, it is critical that the laptop never be out of sight of the person who borrowed it.

  4. Do not install software. Anyone found to have installed software will lose future laptop borrowing privileges. Copying software from this computer is prohibited. (Per the TJU Electronic Communications and Information Policy.)

  5. Return the laptop to the LRC at least 30 minutes before the Scott LRC closes. All laptop computers are to be returned to the Scott LRC. After LRC hours, laptop computers returned to the 2nd floor Circulation Window will be assessed a $25 fine. The borrower is responsible for any and all damage.

Loan period: 3 hours
Overdue fine: $10/hour
