Photoshop Phanatic: Photoshop Basics
Part 7: Applying Guides

In this installment of Photoshop Basics, We will explore adding guides to your image to help with layout. Open up your copy of Photoshop and follow along.

Apply Guides to an Image:

  1. Make sure your Rulers are displayed (You can do this by selecting the Rulers option under the View menu).

  2. Click on the Ruler and drag out a Guide release the mouse when the Guide is in the desired location on your image. (You can reposition your Guide by using the Move tool in the Toolbar).
