| Reference Manager and EndNote users can now download citations directly from Ovid into their personal databases. The new Ovid Direct Export option, developed by Ovid and ISI ResearchSoft, eliminates the need to download Ovid search results into text files, and then import the files into your database. The Direct Export format is compatible with ISI's personal bibliographic management software (PBMS) programs EndNote4, Reference Manager 9/8/7 and ProCite 5/4/3. Users of some versions will have to download a plug-in from http://www.isiresearchsoft.com/webcap/rsexport.html. Direct Export combines the control of the Ovid software searching features with the simple importing feature previously found only in the PBMS PubMed Internet searching function. Once you have created a set of the citations you would like to download: - From the Citation Manager, choose Direct Export under Citation Format, then Save.
- Direct Export will open the PBMS program on your computer, then prompt you to choose the database or library in which you'd like the results saved.
- The citations are then downloaded directly into that file in a separate screen where they can be edited or deleted before closing the database.
See ExampleIn EndNote 4, citations can only be downloaded to an existing database. In Reference Manager 9.5, you may type in a new database name; then, when you are prompted that the file does not exist, select the option to create the file. Note: If you have more than one bibliographic management program on your computer, EndNote is the default program which will open. You will be prompted to first convert the database from Reference Manager to EndNote format before the citations will download. Direct Export will not work on a computer that does not have PBMS software.
