Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases: Portal of Entry

The portal of entry into new host is usually the same as the portal of exit. For example, in respiratory diseases, the respiratory tract is both the portal of exit and the portal of entry. In other diseases the portals may vary.

For example, with staphalococcus infection the agent may exit through skin lesions and enter a new host through ingestion of contaminated food.
