- The Nun Study (NIA)
A longitudinal study of aging and Alzheimer's disease funded by the
National Institute on Aging. This pilot study on aging began in 1986.
It is an ongoing, one-of-a-kind resource for the study of brain diseases
in the elderly. The primary research question is "What factors in early,
mid, and late life increase the risk of Alzheimer's disease, and other
brain diseases such as stroke?" The archives contain accurate risk factor
data spanning the entire lifespan of the participants.
