This one-day hands-on workshop will instruct participants in the entire grant writing process from planning to research to writing to follow-up.

Specffically, workshop goals are:

1. To develop the knowledge and skills required to be an effective grant proposal writer;
2. To help participants become more knowledgeable about the proposal process, including planning, research, writing and follow-up;
3. To introduce participants to specific resource and reference tools that will allow them to idenfify a broader range of funding possibilities;
4. To improve the participants ratio between proposals submitted and proposals funded.

Essential elements of proposal writing;

Tips for successful grant writing;

The review process: how grantmakers process and evaluate grant proposals;

How to develop a working relationship with a grant maker;

Crucial follow-up procedures: how to report on a grant's progress and impact; what to do if you are turned down

The workshop will also involve hands-on practice in each step of the process so that when the workshop ends each participant will have written at least one preliminary proposal which can be later refined and submitted for funding. Checklists and samples for each step of the proposal will be distributed and Hypercard stacks of funding sources and a grant writer proposal maker will be available free of charge for all Macintosh users.
