Ovid WEB-BASED DATABASES & FULL-TEXT RESOURCES

What is Ovid?

Ovid Technologies, Inc. provides a single graphical interface for searching multiple databases and full-text resources. Ovid's web-based interface is powerful, flexible, and easy to use. It is accessible by password from anywhere in the world; from the JEFFLINE homepage, select MEDLINE, Cochrane and other Ovid Databases from the Core Resources box.

Who may use Ovid Databases?

Access to Ovid databases and full-text materials requires a Jefferson Campus Key. The profile of resources you see will depend on your affiliation with Jefferson. TJU/TJUH students, faculty and staff see all of over 15 unique databases and over 50 full-text journals to which Jefferson subscribes.

Databases Available

MEDLINE, 1966 - present, updated weekly
Produced by the U.S. National Library of Medicine, MEDLINE is widely recognized as the premier source for bibliographic and abstract coverage of biomedical literature. MEDLINE includes Index Medicus, the Index to Dental Literature, and International Nursing, as well as other sources of coverage in the areas of allied health, biological and physical sciences, humanities and information science as they relate to medicine and health care. More than 11 million records from more than 4,000 journals are indexed. Two thirds of the records include abstracts. Includes links to Journals@Ovid. MEDLINE uses MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) vocabulary.

MEDLINE In Process & Other Non-Indexed Citations, current records only, updated daily
"MEDLINE In Process & Other Non-Indexed Citations" is the National Library of Medicine's in-process database for MEDLINE. It provides basic information and abstracts before a record is indexed with MeSH headings and added to MEDLINE. New records are added daily to MEDLINE In Process & Other Non-Indexed Citations. After MeSH terms, publication types and other indexing data are incorporated into a MEDLINE In Process & Other Non-Indexed Citations record; the completed citation is added to MEDLINE. Search MEDLINE In Process & Other Non-Indexed Citations by keyword.

OvidSP vs. PubMed: Is One Better Than the Other?

Ovid and PubMed overlap to some degree, but also do different things. OvidSP provides more databases than PubMed, as well as unique full-text materials and an easy, uniform interface. PubMed has merged several of the National Library of Medicine databases into one, allows some unique searching techniques, and is open to the public. If you need an comprehensive search, please request a free consultation with a Reference librarian to design your search.
