The recent installation of new shelving bays and stabilizing braces for the stacks on the 2nd floor created space for shipments of journals returning to the Scott Library from the bindery. The Scott Library sends loose journals to be bound in hardcover so to help minimize damage volumes get from use; the color coding of the covers makes the collection easier to use and maintain.
The shift will give the journal collection more room for expansion.
The physical move of the Bound Journal Collection also affords us the opportunity to refine the shelf order of journal titles. As we did with the Unbound Collection in the fall semester, bound journals on the 2nd floor will be shelved in strict alphabetical order. In filing the titles we will continue to skip initial articles (i.e. A, An, The) as is customary in libraries, but we will no longer skip those articles, or prepositions (i.e. in, of) in the middle of a title.
This change means that some of your favorite titles will be shelved in a new place and that new library users will have an easier time navigating the stacks.
