TOXNET® is a "cluster of databases on toxicology, hazardous chemicals, and related areas" from the Toxicology and Environmental Health Information Program at the National Library of Medicine. In the latest version of the system the eight individual databases, listed below, may now be searched simultaneously:
TOXNET Databases:
- Hazardous Substances Data Bank (HSDB) - Human and animal toxicity, safety and handling and scientifically peer-reviewed articles.
- Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) - Data from the EPA in support of human health risk assessment focusing on hazard identification and dose-response assessment.
- Gene-Tox - Peer-reviewed mutagenicity test data from the EPA.
- Chemical Carcinogenesis Research Information System (CCRIS) - Carcinogenesis, mutagenicity, tumor protection and tumor inhibition data provided by National Cancer Institute.
- TOXLINE - Bibliographic database of references to literature on biochemical, pharmacological, physiological, and toxicological effects of drugs and other chemicals.
- Developmental and Reproductive Toxicology and Environmental Teratology Information Center (DART/ETIC) - Current and older literature on developmental and reproductive toxicology.
- TRI - Annual estimated releases of toxic chemicals to the environment. Reporting years 1995-2000.
- ChemIDplus - Chemical synonyms, structures, regulatory list information, and links to other databases containing information about the chemicals.
Another recent change in TOXNET is the ability to modify a search strategy from a search results page. (The previous version required a return to the database home page.)
