New Office of Faculty Affairs
The new Office of Faculty Affairs, which was established earlier this year, creates an ongoing mechanism to assist the faculty in its tripartite mission of education, research, and patient care. The mission of the office is to provide career development support (especially to the junior faculty), educational skills development support to those involved in the teaching/learning process, and administrative support to programs/activities central to faculty interests.

During the upcoming year, Dr. James B. Erdmann, Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, and his staff anticipate developing a new faculty orientation program, and sponsoring workshops and other skills development programs for the faculty. They will also work with the department chairs to help implement a system of feedback to the faculty about performance, expectations regarding role, and requirements for advancement. The office will provide staff support to faculty committees of the Medical College and work with Academic Information Services and Research, the Center for Research in Medical Education and Health Care, and JEFF-IT. There are plans to design a web site to facilitate communication with the faculty. Two advisory committees will be appointed to provide ongoing guidance in the conduct of its operation.

Besides Dr. Erdmann, the Faculty Affairs Office is staffed by Carol A. Trent, Program Coordinator, and Blanche Ramsey, Administrative Assistant. An assistant director will be recruited in the next couple of months to augment the staff support available to meet the goals of the office. Dr. Erdmann can be reached at x5-4481, and Ms. Trent and Ms. Ramsey at x5-4483 and x5-4484 respectively.
