Need Some R&R?
The Web is a perfect place to make your travel plans, whether you are trying to work in a quick weekend getaway before classes start, or looking for advance airfare deals on a trip home for the holidays.

JEFFLINE's travel section includes a wide variety of sources, from restaurant guides and rail schedules up to full-service online travel agencies. In fact, there are so many services out there, it gets confusing sometimes. How to choose?

When looking for fares, rates and programs, it pays to search several services, and to know about the track record of the company. Independent reviewers can help with the track record part. JEFFLINE's JEFFSelects service links to the Expedia, Travelocity, and Orbitz services.

Peter Jasco, an award-winning reviewer of reference tools, compared the two highest-profile online services in his July installment of "Peter's Digital Reference Shelf" on the Gale Group Web site. Both Expedia and Travelocity have been online for several years, offering discounts on airfare, hotels, destination packages, and more. Both offer advice for the traveler, helpful hints, and special deals. Jasco's reviews are heavily illustrated with screenshots and examples.

Competition for travel dollars is always fierce, and regularly reported news items may alert you to the possibility of special opportunities. News this summer is that the Orbitz service is providing some heavy competition for Expedia and Travelocity, so this could be an excellent time to find low, low rates. Orbitz may be a relative newcomer to the field, but is backed directly by a consortium of airlines.

So check the ratings, visit the services, and be sure to send us a postcard from wherever you go.
