General Public Access (Visitor's Pass)

Scott Memorial Library welcomes members of the general public Mondays through Fridays, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (University holidays not included).

  • Visitors must purchase a $7 pass for each visit to the library.
  • Individuals may purchase a maximum of 4 passes per month. An individual membership program is available for more frequent access.
  • A valid form of government-issued identification must be presented for admission into the Library at the time of purchase.

The visitor's pass includes access to the Scott Library building and use of the public computers within the library (with limited access to some electronic resources). Passes are valid for one day only, for use until 5 p.m. on the date of issue.

How to Get a Visitor's Pass

To enter Scott Library:

  • Show a valid photograph ID to the 1st floor Security Officer and sign in on the visitor log.
  • Purchase a Visitor's Pass at the 2nd floor Circulation Window. If you leave the building during the day, you must show your visitor's pass to the Security Officer to reenter.

Visitor's Pass Privileges

  1. Access to the Library's public computers.
  2. Access to the Library's print collections and study space.
  3. Photocopying and laser printing at 25 cents per page plus $1 for a permanent, rechargeable copy card.
  4. MicroSoft Office applications.
  5. Internet access.
  6. Non-password-protected JEFFLINE resources.
  7. Free dot-matrix printing & download to floppy disks.

    Note: Photocopy machines are self-service, card-operated. Copy cards may be purchased and recharged at the Circulation Window on the second floor. Please note, copy cards are non-refundable.

Visitor's Pass Exclusions

  1. Borrowing of Library materials.
  2. Use of the Learning Resources Centers and Open Access Lab.
  3. Password-protected databases, electronic journals and electronic books, such as (but not limited to) Ovid databases, MD Consult, videoservers. See access alternatives for JEFFLINE guests.
  4. Any activities that conflict with the Jefferson Electronic Communication and Information Policy.

Responsibilities

  1. Comply with all Scott Library policies and procedures.
  2. Display the visitor pass in plain sight at all times while in the Library.
  3. Library passes are the property of Thomas Jefferson University and must be surrendered upon the request of Scott Memorial Library staff.
