AISR Access Privileges: Jeffersonians

Students, faculty, and employees of Thomas Jefferson University and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital have access to a wide range of resources and services through Academic & Instructional Support & Resources (AISR).

Services Included

  1. Access to Scott Memorial Library during regularly scheduled hours. This includes weekends, evenings and 24-hour access to the first and fourth floors. Jefferson identification must be presented to enter the building and worn while in the Library.

  2. Borrowing privileges for Scott Library's print collection. To borrow materials from the Scott Memorial Library, you need to activate your library account. Bring your Jefferson photo ID to the Circulation Window on the 2nd floor of the Library, directly across from the elevators. There you will be made aware of the Library's borrowing policies and be asked to complete a brief form.
  3. Access and borrowing privileges in the AISR Learning Resources Centers (LRCs). The LRCs provide computer services and equipment, audiovisual materials and equipment, and clinical education models and services. Learning Resources Centers are located in the Scott Library and on the 13th floor of the Edison Building. An open access lab with 15 computers is also available 24 hours a day in Jefferson Alumni Hall. Limited group study space is also available in the Scott LRC.

  4. Copy and laser printing rates @ 10 cents per copy, plus the cost of a copy card ($1). Copy machines and laser printers are self-service, card-operated, black and white. Copy cards can be purchased and recharged at the Circulation Window on the second floor. Color copying and fax services are available at our Edison Learning Resources Center (Edison Building, Suite 1300).
  5. On- and off-campus access to most databases, database services, and full-text resources, including journals, MICROMEDEX/CareNotes, STAT!Ref, MEDLINE, CINAHL, Evidence-Based Medicine Reviews, MD Consult, and others. Note that a few resources, such as UpToDate, are accessible only on campus.
  6. Database searches by an Information Services librarian ($25/topic plus online fees, up to 25 searches per year). Scott Memorial Library has access to hundreds of databases on a wide range of scholarly and popular topics.   7. Monthly alerting services on biomedical topics. Fees for alerting services include a one-time set-up fee of $25 and $6/topic for in-house databases or a negotiable rate for vendor-based online services.
  8. JeffDocs document delivery services for items owned by Scott Library. Subject to copyright restrictions the Library staff will copy articles in our journal collection. Copies may be delivered via Internet (Ariel service), picked up at the 2nd floor Circulation Window or delivered through inter-office mail. Copies are provided for a fee of $5/item, or $10/item for fax delivery.

  9. Inter-Library Loan Service (ILL) for articles and books not owned by Scott Memorial Library. Subject to copyright restrictions journal articles and books not available in the Scott Library can be obtained for a fee of $5/item, or $10/item for fax/rush delivery. TJU STUDENTS may request 10 items per academic year FREE of charge. After the 10th request, each item costs $5. It takes 3-5 working days to receive a standard ILL request. Copies of journal articles may be delivered via Internet (Ariel service), picked up at the 2nd floor Circulation Window or delivered through inter-office mail. Books must be picked up at the Circulation Window.
  10. Medical Media Services (MMS). The MMS department provides slides, photography, artwork, and other biomedical communication services to the Jefferson community for a fee. For more information call 215-503-7841.

  11. AISR Education Services workshops. Workshops are available to promote information literacy, support faculty and staff development, and assist in course design and instruction. Customized workshops can be developed to fit course or department needs. For more information contact the Education Services Department at EdServices@lists.jefferson.edu or 215-503-2830.

Responsibilities

  1. Follow all Library policies. You are responsible for all materials charged to your Jefferson ID. Report lost or stolen ID to Security and the Scott Library immediately. You are responsible for all library items charged to your card prior to reporting a loss.

  2. Food may not be consumed while in the Library. Beverages are permitted in approved containers only.

  3. Computer users must comply with the University's Electronic Communication Policy.

  4. Failure to comply with Library policies may result in loss of Library privileges and ejection from the Library.
